Somerset County has been known as the “high point” of Pennsylvania since its founding in 1795.  At 3,213 feet, Mt. Davis stands as the state’s highest elevation and is appreciated by thousands of campers, hunters, and visitors each year.  But that isn’t the only reason why Somerset County is called the “high point” of Pennsylvania.

With its beautiful, mountainous terrain and rich heritage, Somerset County is an area that can be appreciated by any visitor, regardless of age or personal interests.  Whether you are interested in recreational, entertainment, outdoor, or historical attractions, Somerset County has something for you to enjoy and experience.

Somerset County has three resorts and  five state parks for visitors to enjoy.  Anyone who likes skiing, hiking, biking, fishing, hunting, or camping will greatly appreciate all of the outdoor activities Somerset County has to offer.  The Allegheny Passage Hiking and Biking Trail, in fact, passes right though the county and is a fun, scenic way to enjoy your outdoor travels.

Many travelers also relish the opportunity to visit one of our nation’s greatest symbols of altruism:  The Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville, Pa.  It was here that 40 passengers gave up their lives by diverting a flight that was hijacked for Washington, D.C.  Though they all died in the crash, thousands of lives were saved because of their selfless actions.

Aside from its many outdoor and historical attraction, Somerset County has many quaint shops and restaurants for you to enjoy.  From antique hunting to a good, hearty meal, Somerset County has just what you’re looking for.  It is also the site of many inviting Bed & Breakfast lodges that invite visitors to “get away” for a weekend.

So check out all that Somerset County has to offer with these easy-to-use links, and find out why it is and always will be the “high point” of Pennsylvania.
