Flight 93 Memorial

On September 11, 2001, 40 brave passengers diverted a plane hijacked for Washington, D.C., saving countless lives in the process.  The plane crashed in a remote field in Shanksville, Pa., killing all 40 passengers onboard the plane.  The bravery and selflessness of these 40 people is now nationally recognized at the Flight 93 Memorial site.

Visitors to the Flight 93 Memorial can take time to remember and cherish all those who were lost on perhaps the most significant day of our nation’s history.  Located on a hilltop overlooking the crash site, the memorial has wooden benches inscribed with the names of all those onboard the ill-fated flight.  The area is enclosed by a 40 foot fence which is thoughtfully decorated with flowers, handwritten notes, artwork and various tributes to all those who were lost.  The memorial is open to the public 365 days a year, dawn to dusk, with staff present from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. most days in the spring, summer, and autumn.  Winter hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
