Just along the Pumphouse Trail at Laurel Hill State Park is the Jones Mill Run Dam. The soothing sounds of water rushing down a bed of rocks provide the perfect resting place for a hiker or a visitor escaping the noise of the city. Laurel Hill is one of five state parks in Somerset County. Its 3,935 acres of mountainous terrain features Laurel Hill Lake, 12 miles of hiking trails and beautiful plant and wildlife. This summer, visitors of the park can enjoy picnicking, swimming, boating, fishing, hiking and hunting. Overnight guests can choose from 264 campsites, eight cottages and the Laurel Hill Lodge.
Here are five activities that visitors of all walks can enjoy.
  1. Hike 1.6 miles along a gradual incline at Pumphouse Trail to Jones Mill Run Dam.
  2. Visit the beach for swimming, picnicking, horseshoes and volleyball.
  3. Explore Laurel Hill Lake on a canoe, kayak, paddleboat or hydobike.
  4. Visit the bluebird field and explore the wildflower meadow across from the visitors center.
  5. Stop by during the Laurel Hill Bluegrass Festival for lots of music, food and fun.
